Analysis of CD Cover (Skrillex-My Name is Skrillex)

The following album is by the Dubstep musicians 'Skrillex'. Due to the fact this is there first album they attempted to make themselves known through their album cover, despite their popularity of the songs this had to be done initially. They aren't subtle about it too with the first track on the album being 'My Name is Skrillex' and the album cover itself containing that track name which makes it the album name. It's like an introduction and with the blue writing, similar to that of the movie 'Tron' they establish their electric/techno vibe they're trying to give off.

Their name is made to give the effect of livestock branding therefor imprints that image onto the cover. The smoke coming off it would justify this and also gives the name the effect of being 'hot' therefor would connote that they are a 'hot new Dubstep group' to look out for and hit the music market. The power behind the marking and effect of the album metaphorically scarring you is for their name to be marked into your memory so you won't forget them the next time you see their name or hear their music.

The fonts used are sharp and jagged looking which is in-sync with the Dubstep genre. Its supposed to be rough, tough and if not evil on many occasions. This specific album is, in Dubstep terms, "Dirty" which translates to evil and contains a lot of bass/pitches. The lettering of the 'L' in 'Skrillex' is made to look like it came from a horror film. It is as if nails or a claw were dragged down on the album and tore it's flesh, as such, giving the red the appearance of blood. This enhances the evil effect and makes the album look evil as a result, just like a horror film.
