Analysis of CD Cover Jay-Z (The BluePrint 3)

This album cover is from Jay- Z BluePrint 3 its very simple but imaginative , Jay-Z didnt have to put much complexity into this album as he had previously made 2 other albums which were the prequels to this one. The white backgound is very plain but consists of a variety of instruments so audiences know what they are instore for, the red bold lines stand out and give the album its name as mathematically it means ' the same as' so he is making a statement of this album is a follow up from his previous albums and is of the same good qaulity. Jay- Z didnt have to put his face on this album because he is well known around the world so he expressed himself through these images.

The font of the album is simple and small as the 3 red lines represent the name of the album and stands out to the audience. 3 red lines are also on 'Skrillex' album and that stands out aswell but both have diffrent meanings for example the 3 red lines on Jay-Z 'BluePrint 3' represent the 3 stages of the Illuminati. This is how everything is ordered , simple but sequenced to follow each other and create a link.

Analysis of CD Cover (Skrillex-My Name is Skrillex)

The following album is by the Dubstep musicians 'Skrillex'. Due to the fact this is there first album they attempted to make themselves known through their album cover, despite their popularity of the songs this had to be done initially. They aren't subtle about it too with the first track on the album being 'My Name is Skrillex' and the album cover itself containing that track name which makes it the album name. It's like an introduction and with the blue writing, similar to that of the movie 'Tron' they establish their electric/techno vibe they're trying to give off.

Their name is made to give the effect of livestock branding therefor imprints that image onto the cover. The smoke coming off it would justify this and also gives the name the effect of being 'hot' therefor would connote that they are a 'hot new Dubstep group' to look out for and hit the music market. The power behind the marking and effect of the album metaphorically scarring you is for their name to be marked into your memory so you won't forget them the next time you see their name or hear their music.

The fonts used are sharp and jagged looking which is in-sync with the Dubstep genre. Its supposed to be rough, tough and if not evil on many occasions. This specific album is, in Dubstep terms, "Dirty" which translates to evil and contains a lot of bass/pitches. The lettering of the 'L' in 'Skrillex' is made to look like it came from a horror film. It is as if nails or a claw were dragged down on the album and tore it's flesh, as such, giving the red the appearance of blood. This enhances the evil effect and makes the album look evil as a result, just like a horror film.

Our Time In the Green Screen Studio

Joe simply rocking out with the 'On Call' bassline. The seriousity behind this picture is for Joe to be in shot with the camera as John had to get his positions and angles right. These were the moments the individual bassline moments were shot and perfection as well as ambition had to be undertaken. We achieved those results.

As you can see from the picture, John is navigating his way through the complex set of buttons and switches in which a quick tutorial was all that was needed to allow him to film and set up the footage required. With Joe set into position and the close up of his bass-playing set all that was left to do was for John to begin recording.

You can see here the three shots which were being filmed simultaneously and John job was to chose the right moments to switch from one to the other. From left-right was the close up of Joe's bass playing, the neck of the guitar/two shot performance and finally the close up of the artist faces whether that was me lip-syncing or Joe's bass face.

Here I was playing the guitar part to the song (just like Joe played the bass section) and lip-syncing. This was during a practice run to make sure the camera was right and I actually knew the song (believability). The chair on the floor, in case your confused, is for me to rest me leg onto as no futher straps were available. It was essential we didn't get it in the shot as it would make our video highly ammatuer and ruin the entire performance section. However, all was well and the shot went smoothly and the footage captured has been incopurated into our final video.

John's Last Week Analysis

Last week we filmed the performance part of our music video it consisted of us locating into the college green screen room. Joe and Koceila were playing the guitars, Joe had a bass guitar and Koceila playing the electric guitar while i was using the different effects on the camera in the studio. The shots consisted of close ups of Koceila singing, Joe playing the specific keys on the bass guitar and a close up Koceila hitting the right notes on his electric guitar. It was hard to get the right fades and angles when they was singing but then i got the hang of it after lots or practice before we actually recorded

Koceila's Last Week Analysis

We begun our performance piece for the music video with me on Guitar and Joe on Bass. Originally we wanted John to do the lip-syncing but with minimal knowledge of the lyrics and his point that due to the fact he was in the narrative section of the music video it would have been misleading, we simply opted that I did it. It wasn't difficult miming the lyrics as I knew the song and all the moments to come in, however, what was difficult was making it believable that I was actually singing. After a few takes we checked back the footage and, to our relief, found it did look believable.

Joe's Week Analysis

Instruments and Props during band performance -

We used a Bass guitar (used by Joe) and an electric guitar (used by Kociela). We decided that, because we had the skills to play these instruments, we should use this to our advantage and get a fair amount of footage actually performing the instruments. We also used a microphone. This is essential as we have decided to lip sync and it wouldn't look as convincing without, whereas with a microphone it looks like an actual band performance,
